Newspaper Recycling
For any villager that is not aware there is a collection point for papers in the garage at Onslow Cottage, Dorchester Road. The papers are recycled in aid of Village Hall Funds and over the last year have raised £600, valuable funds for running of our Hall.
It would be helpful if when taking your papers to this point they are tied in bundles. There is a sample on the table and string is provided!
We are very grateful to Ian and Betty Bryant for allowing us to use this collection point and their continued support to the Hall. Also to all those who already support this scheme in recycling their papers and taking them to the recycling point.
Sydling St. Nicholas Village Hall was build in 1939 thanks to a gift of land by Winchester College, and the effort of Major Miskin and the village community.
The Hall is used for many purposes including Country Dancing, Toddler and Pre-School Groups, a Youth Drama Group, a Monthly Lunch Club, Keep Fit, Badminton, Short Mat Bowls and many Club and Society meetings. It is also an excellent venue for private parties large and small. The Hall has a working stage with footlights a PA and Loop System. It is used by professional and amateur drama groups. There is seating for 120.
In 2000 Sydling Village Hall Committee put forward a successful bid to the Lottery Fund. This enabled us to build an extension and refurbish the kitchen to the highest standards. The Hall now has full disabled access, and is an excellent venue for private functions especially wedding receptions.
A very enjoyable way to see the Village Hall and the beautiful village is to come to our annual Open Gardens Weekend. This is held on the Sunday and Monday of the May Bank Holiday.
