Refurbishment of the Village Hall is complete and is fully functional. For bookings please contact Helen on 01300 341777 (helenmbaird@icloud.com) – or Jo on 01300 341620 (jocropp@btinternet.com) for details. There are still a few minor things to do ,eg curtains/blinds for the windows but the stage curtain is now up and looking rather grand. Visitors are impressed by what has been achieved, especially with the kitchen which is now a fully functional commercial grade kitchen – ideal for weddings and other special events. It is also a great venue for Childrens parties – plenty of space to run around and, if the weather is fine, a large grassed area outside. The Village Hall Website will soon be up and running which will help showcase the premises and make bookings easier.

VILLAGE HALL REFURBISHMENT – PRESENTATION OF CHEQUE

Sir Christopher Lees, Chairman of the South Dorset Local Action Group for LEADER presented trustees of Sydling St Nicholas Village Hall with a cheque for £97,071 to kickstart a refurbishment programme which has been a year in the planning.

The work will include an extension to, and refitting of, the kitchen and serving area, the creation of new storage facilities for hall furniture, refurbishment of the area to the rear of the stage and a new heating system.

Chairman of the Village Hall Trustees Laura Cheney said: “This award is the culmination of 12 months of hard work by the trustees. “We are very excited about being able to turn our ideas into reality by early next year and by so doing provide a first rate facility for the benefit of the whole community”.

LEADER funding is available to local businesses, communities, farmers, foresters and land managers. LEADER is a French acronym which roughly translates as ‘Liaison among Actors in Rural Economic Development’.

The refurbishment is planned to be completed by the spring 2019.

About the Village Hall

Sydling St. Nicholas Village Hall was build in 1939 thanks to a gift of land by Winchester College, and the effort of Major Miskin and the village community.

The Hall is used for many purposes including Country Dancing, Toddler and Pre-School Groups, a Youth Drama Group, a Monthly Lunch Club, Keep Fit, Badminton, Short Mat Bowls and many Club and Society meetings. It is also an excellent venue for private parties large and small. The Hall has a working stage with footlights a PA and Loop System. It is used by professional and amateur drama groups. There is seating for 120.

In 2000 Sydling Village Hall Committee put forward a successful bid to the Lottery Fund. This enabled us to build an extension and refurbish the kitchen to the highest standards. The Hall now has full disabled access, and is an excellent venue for private functions especially wedding receptions.

A very enjoyable way to see the Village Hall and the beautiful village is to come to our annual Open Gardens Weekend. This is held on the Sunday and Monday of the May Bank Holiday.
